VBS 2008-Monday

The first day of Vacation Bible School was a success! We had over 270 kids on campus between pre-school and 6th grade. That is the largest number we have had on a Monday in nearly a decade! We have over 100 volunteers running the program. If you see anyone in a staff t-shirt, be sure to thank them for their tireless work.

“My favorite part was the Bible story,” exclaimed Seth Bourgeois (first grade), “because we learned about Jesus’ disciples.”

Fifth grader, Josiah Pearce said, “I love recreation because we figured out we’re really strong and we beat the 6th graders at tug-o-war.”

The Bible verse of the day was found in Matthew, where it quotes, “Jesus said, ‘Come follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.’” The story was about how Jesus called several fishermen to leave their nets and be fishers of men. We also had special guests, Jonathan and Traci Shoemaker, share about missionary life in Portugal. This couple, along with others, will spend this week sharing their experiences in life as a result of their choice to be “fishers of men”.

Each day is started together with music, a puppet show, a fishing game, and the announcement of the team scores. Throughout the day, each group rotates to various stations which include crafts, recreation and refreshments, missions and music, and Bible story.

Friday will be the only exception to the normal schedule because there will be a closing ceremony and FREE luncheon for the kids and their families. Please join us from 1:15am until 1:30pm on Friday, August 8.

Hi Linda-So awesome to see the body of Christ working together. This evening at dinner our family was talking about what we learned at VBS. It was especially neat to hear Shaina, who will be going into kindergarten, talk about the story and resing the songs she learned. Shaina is usually very quiet and you often wonder if she’s understanding or even hearing what’s going on. So-praise God for the growth that’s happening this week.

YAY! That is great to hear! I pray that each child will leave this week with a little more understanding of who God is, a little growth in their walk with God, or at least an overpowering feeling that they are loved!
